Ursula Kofahl Lampron - Biography

IN THE BEGINNING....

IN THE BEGINNING....

I was born in Germany after the war. I remember playing amongst the ruins. I was fascinated by the the doll house images of entire walls missing from the apartment buildings showing empty rooms filled with just a few pieces of the former resident's furniture, or bathtubs and toilets sticking out from floorless walls. I also remember my family's turbulent voyage to America.  In America, I received my very first pencil. There and then I began my lifelong passion with art. With my passion, I found the perfect secret place, an island of calm in an ever changing life.

In 1970 I moved to French Canada with my new husband and settled in a small French speaking village with his parents. I learned to speak French and the ins and out of yet another new culture. During this time we purchased a farm where I became passionately involved with horses. Horses have been and continue to be a fundamental part of my work. All these life changing events had a profound influence on my art.

In 2000 I returned to Concordia University to fulfill a childhood ambition of studying the arts. There I studied with Francoise Sullivan co-signer with Borduas of the Manifesto,The Refus Global. She was very instrumental in my understanding of color and composition.  I also studied with Laurent Bonet, son of the famous Spanish artist Jordi Bonet and with him learned the techniques of the "old masters". Creativity and spontaneity instruction from Tania Lebedef helped to give me a well rounded art education. In 2007 I showed my horse sculptures at the Louvre, Paris, France. I have also shown my art in Florence, Italy, New York, Florida, and Los Angeles. My work can be found all over the Province of Quebec, notably Baie St.-Paul, the heart of Quebec's art world, Montreal, and also Ontario.

I am a member of the Academie Internationale des Beaux-Arts du Quebec, where I hold the honor of Maitre en Beaux-Arts. My art is available in several galleries.
